Permanent Makeup

Microblading 3 houston fort lauderdale

At Shining Way Esthetics Katy, we offer both Nano brows and Powder brows. What is the difference between the two?

Nano Brows

This is a permanent makeup tattoo that creates realistic-looking hair strokes for the brows using a tattoo machine. Less trauma to the skin.

Powder Brows

This is a permanent makeup tattoo technique that creates the illusion of filled in brows that appear fluffy and soft – no hair strokes in this procedure.

Q: I had my brows previously done, but now I want natural hair strokes.

A: Microblading and Nano brows can only be performed on clients with virgin skin or properly faded microblading. The hair strokes need a “window” in between the in order for the service to heal properly. Microblading over solid brows will cause patchiness, and the hair strokes will not be visible after the healing process.

Q: Does it Hurt?

A: Receiving permanent makeup should never be “painful”. Every client’s pain threshold varies, but numbing cream and secondary numbing gel is used prior and during the service to numb the area. The first pass typically feels like you’re getting your brows threaded, and the second/third pass will be very comfortable when the numbing gel is applied.

Q: What is the healing time?

A: 7-14 days. The majority of healing happens within the first week. While the skin on the surface may look healed after one week, your skin is still repairing itself underneath. This whole process takes six weeks. It is very important to follow aftercare directions because your healed results are very dependent on you doing so. Most people resume normal activities after one week, although it is very important to stay out of direct sunlight (30 days) and to avoid heavy workouts (14 days) for an extended period of time.

Q: How often do they need to be touched up?

A: Two sessions are generally required to achieve the final look desired. Plan to come back in for your first touch-up within 8-12 weeks. Afterwards you should come in for a “refresh” touch-up yearly.

Q: I’m scared my brows will come out too dark!

A: With either technique, the clinician will match pigments to create the same tone of your natural brows. With Powder brows, density and saturation is based on personal preference – light and airy or dramatic and saturated. These are things that can be discussed in your consultation. We prefer to go light-handed in your first session because it’s easier to add more later but cannot take away later! Almost always, everyone comes to their touch-up session wanting their brows slightly darker and richer than their first time.

Q: Is it permanent?

A: Permanent makeup is never semi-permanent; however, each service will require touch-ups. The amount of upkeep necessary depends on your compliance with aftercare, lifestyle, and skin-type. Artists cannot legally tell you there will be a point in time that your skin will completely void of ink, it is considered false advertising. While brows may fade, there is always a small amount of ink left behind.

Who is not a candidate?

  • Pregnant, nursing, trying to get pregnant, or harvesting eggs (must wait 6 months after delivery and/or 6 months after nursing)
  • Heart conditions/Pacemaker/Defibrillator (certain medications may prohibit you from having the procedure done)
  • Trichotillomania – compulsive pulling of body hair (due to constant pulling, scar tissue is prominent, and pigment will not heal properly)
  • Shingles – have ever had it on your face (procedure will cause a flare up)
  • Eczema, Psoriasis, or Dermatitis in the brow area – constant flaking/itching/irritation/shedding of the skin
  • Hemophilia – bleeding disorder
  • Menopausal (only if body runs hot) if you have hot flashes during the procedure, pigment will not retain)
  • Platelet Disorders/Aggregation Disorder – an aggregation disorder is when platelets do not bind with fibrinogen and other proteins in order to stick to other platelets. As a result, the platelets cannot form a plug to stop the bleeding from a damaged blood vessel
  • Deep wrinkles in the brow area – (hair strokes will not lay properly in the creases, giving the brow an uneven look)
