What is Sculptra® Aesthetic?
Sculptra is a safe, synthetic, and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin. It is made up of microspheres (a spherical shell that is usually made of a biodegradable or resorbable plastic polymer, that has a very small diameter usually in the micrometer or nanometer range, and that is often filled with a substance, as a drug or antibody, for release as the shell is degraded) of poly-L-lactic acid forty to sixty microns in size. Because poly-L-lactic acid is the main ingredient in Sculptra, patients don’t require a test for allergic reactions.
Sculptra is approved to treat lipoatrophy, the progressive facial decomposing seen on most HIV patients, and has recently been approved for cosmetic purposes.
The results of Sculptra are not immediate. At your first treatment visit, it may appear that Sculptra worked immediately because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra. A few days following the treatment, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra takes time to gradually correct the depression in your skin. Your doctor will decide the appropriate number of treatment sessions and the amount of Sculptra you will need at each session. Multiple sessions are often required and patients with severe facial fat loss may require 3 to 6 treatments.
Sculptra Aesthetic is a liquid substance that is made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Sculptra helps to stimulate a process called neocollagenasis, the stimulation of collagen cell growth in the skin. As a PLLA collagen stimulator, Sculptra is different. It works with your body within the deep dermis, rather than topically, to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. As the Sculptra PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.

Am I a good candidate for Sculptra Butt Lift?
If you want a larger rear end but you don’t have enough fat or want to undergo a procedure, then it’s very possible you’re a good candidate for a Sculptra Butt Lift. In general, we look for candidates that will benefit from the procedure and who are not predisposed to any adverse complications. Because Sculptra is a widely used dermal collagen stimulator, many candidates will be a good fit for the Sculptra Butt Lift. In general, we find that at least some of the following qualities make the best Sculptra Butt Lift candidates:
- A desire to increase the volume, size or roundness of the buttocks without undergoing a procedure or surgery
- A desire to increase the volume, size and shape of the buttocks, but do not have enough fat to undergo a Fat Transfer (Brazilian Butt lift)
- A desire to get results without a minimally invasive procedure such as Fat Transfer
- A desire for long term but not permanent results (the results will last between 2 to 3 years)
- A desire to bring proportion and contouring to the buttocks area
- A desire to bring a subtle lift to the buttocks area
- Realistic expectations about what this procedure can accomplish
- A relatively stable weight
What can I expect to see with a Sculptra buttlift procedure?
The most common results are a subtle, lifting and volumizing of the buttock. In some cases, patients will receive a Sculptra Butt Lift procedure to help in minimizing the appearance of cellulite. The results are gradual as Sculptra works to stimulate the body’s own collagen formation in the tissue.
How is the procedure performed?
First, topical lidocaine (2% without epinephrine) is applied to the area to be injected. Once the skin is numbed (usually after 30 minutes), Sculptra is injected to the upper buttock with very small needles. Depending on the desired level of augmentation, most patients require about three treatments, six weeks apart. Although results can be noticed as early as six weeks after the treatments, the optimal outcome is not noticed until about six months after the procedure. Typical results last from 2 to 3 years.
